navigator Marie Descoubes, who had been wanted near Bermuda for a week, gave the news – Liberation

Marie Descoubes is still alive. The 28-year-old skipper had not been heard from since November 6, when he was sailing off the coast of Bermuda on a sailboat bound for Puerto Rico. His mother reassured everyone through a publication posted this Friday afternoon on her Facebook account. “Marie just gave us great news! They will be in Puerto Rico in 2-3 hours!! Everything is going great! Thank you for your much support. We are all at peace!”he wrote.

Accompanied by an American skipper, the young woman set off from Maine, a state located at the northeastern tip of the United States. A stopover is planned in Bermuda on November 6 so the two can refuel. Until this Friday, the last news was received by those closest to Marie Descoubes. A search conducted last weekend by the U.S. Coast Guard in consultation with Bermuda’s coordination center proved unsuccessful.

The last contact the sailboat made was on November 5, 2025 at 20:12. Atlantic Time (November 6 at 01:12 Paris time), the small crew reported fuel requirements. “The power supply on the ship appears to have been cut off and the GPS on the sailing ship is no longer working, making communication and location impossible”said local media ICI La Rochelle, where the skipper came from, to explain the eight days of radio silence.

This incident occurred on the sidelines of a personal project led by young Rochelaise. He is currently on a three-year world tour, starting in September 2023, to promote an independent lifestyle, following his actions with the Elément-terre Sail association, of which he has been founder and president since 2023.

The association aims to promote sustainable lifestyles and “ecology around the Atlantic Ocean with sailboats as support”. His boat, Zia (an allusion to the character in the cartoon Mysterious Golden City), currently anchored in Guatemala to undertake repairs. He then decided to transport the SV Liahona to earn some money. The sailor has not yet reacted to the media excitement caused by his “disappearance”.
