New cameras in the Gallery for Games and Christmas parties

About ten cameras were installed last spring and the same number have been added inside the Gallery and on the surrounding streets to increase control during the Christmas holidays and (especially) the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Provincial Order and Security Committee chaired by Prefect Claudio Sgaraglia met yesterday morning, in the presence of Mayor Beppe Sala and the police chief, and examined and approved the project developed by the Municipality “for the expansion and implementation of the existing video surveillance system in the Gallery”. The new cameras, around ten, will be installed to monitor access and surrounding areas such as via Pellico and via Foscolo and will be configured on the systems used by local, state and CC police to “allow more effective control of the area, preventing and combating crime, especially in periods of greater influx of people” and the risk of robbery. Last year, before the holidays, the City Government began strengthening video surveillance. Following reports of violence on New Year’s Eve in Piazza Duomo, strengthening controls will be planned in the coming weeks but in the meantime the cameras can also serve as a deterrent. In recent weeks, it has also launched a tender of half a million euros to install 30 anti-vandal electronic eyes on the Gallery’s dome and roof, which the authors have also targeted in recent days. The tender is expected to be awarded in the spring and the new cameras will not arrive until autumn 2026.

Talks in the prefecture yesterday also decided to establish targeted controls in Bruzzano to block the phenomenon of clandestine car and motorbike racing, the nightly gatherings in cemetery squares that are the starting point for dangerous “Fast & Furious” style races, as also denounced by FdI board member Enrico Marcora in recent days. The incident, which has now been corrected, sparked protests from residents. As reported in a note from the prefecture, coordination has “organized targeted control services in the area by the police and traffic police”. And finally, just yesterday Il Giornale reported about the protest organized by the Pasteur Committee last Sunday against groups of South Americans who gathered late at night on the Via dei Transiti, buying alcohol in minimarkets that were open indefinitely and often led to fights, security problems and degradation. The prefecture’s table “examined the conditions of safety and urban decency in the Via dei Transiti area, which has recently been subjected to several targeted preventive services, and decided to intensify controls “to respond to the requests expressed by the population” and “for more effective control over the area.”

Returning to the Olympic topic: less than a hundred days after the opening ceremony and after several days of suspension, the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation reopened the online ticket window yesterday, with another sales window on the official website that from now on will be available every Wednesday of every week. It is possible to purchase tickets for various disciplines, including short track (category B), speed skating, ice hockey (from 30 euros), cross-country skiing, freestyle and snowboarding. Individual Milano Cortina 2026 tickets are only sold on the official ticket portal, while On Location is the official reseller of the “package”.

Foundation President Giovanni Malagò expressed his desire yesterday: “I would like Carlo Ancelotti to be the torchbearer at the next Winter Olympics, given his great attachment to this country”, the historic coach of the national team who currently coaches Brazil.
