new design standards required – Il Tempo

Belém (Brazil), 17 November – On the occasion of the event promoted by RemTech Expo and MASE – Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security at the COP30 Italian Pavilion, engineer Francesco Ventura, OICE Board Member responsible for the Environment and Sole Director of VDP srl, strongly reminded of the need for a paradigm shift in infrastructure design in light of the increasing intensity of extreme meteorological events. Ventura highlights how traditional design standards are no longer adequate in the face of rapid climate change. “Design standards are changing radically because we are faced with increasingly intense and frequent meteorological events, which unfortunately are now also affecting Italy. This requires us designers to evaluate the territorial context carefully, recognizing vulnerabilities and turning them into guiding criteria for design choices: today we can no longer design anywhere and in any way, even with the most advanced technology.” OICE Board members also highlighted how responsible planning today must integrate detailed territorial analysis, multi-risk assessments, nature-based solutions and climate adaptation criteria, to ensure safer infrastructure and communities.

“OICE is ready to leverage its experience to contribute to the goals of COP30 and build a more resilient, sustainable and coherent infrastructure and region in the global energy transition.”

This intervention is part of an international debate on tools to accelerate climate adaptation, where the role of technical design and engineering companies is considered strategic to transform knowledge about risks into real safety and sustainability solutions.
