NFL legend can’t accept defeat: Tom Brady has a cloned dog | sport

He got his dead dog back – thanks to science!

Football icon Tom Brady (48) has revealed that his new dog Junie is a clone – a genetic copy of his late beloved Lua.

Lua, a pit bull mix, was an integral part of the family during Brady’s marriage to supermodel Gisele Bündchen (2009 to 2022). The superstar couple adopted the dog early in their marriage. In December 2023, Lua died – much to the Brady family’s sadness.

The eight-time Super Bowl champion is now involved with Colossal Biosciences, a biotechnology company that specializes in genetic engineering and cloning techniques – and is helping Lua get a “second life” using this technology. A drop of blood taken before his death served as the starting material.

Brady explained: The company “gave my family a second chance with a replica of our beloved dog. I love my animals. They mean the world to me and my family.”

He added that he is “excited about how Colossal and Viagen’s technology can help both families who have lost their beloved pets, while also helping save endangered species.”

The background is that Colossal has now bought the company Viagen Pets and Equine, which has cloned dogs for Paris Hilton and Barbra Streisand, among others.

Although the procedure is legal in the US, it is strictly prohibited in Germany. Here, animal cloning is considered animal testing and can only be carried out for research purposes with official approval.

Brady points out: For some people, the loss of animals is so great that even high technology is no longer taboo. Now the dog is back – not from heaven, but from the laboratory.
