Niger, clashes between Al Qaeda and the army: 10 people killed

A group of militants from the Al Qaeda-affiliated Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) launched an attack on a village in western Niger, killing at least 10 soldiers. The attack took place in the village of Garbougna, in the Tillaberi region, near the border of Mali and Burkina Faso, and according to other sources resulted in 10 more victims. The region has long been the center of clashes between the powers of the three countries and Islamic militant groups. In Mali, JNIM besieged the capital Bamako, which was experiencing a fuel supply crisis.
