The President of the Republic expressed that pain “still”, ten years after the November 13 attacks. “Not a single life will be forgotten, not a single tear will be wasted”assured Emmanuel Macron during the inauguration ceremony of the Garden of Remembrance, at Place Saint-Gervais in Paris, Thursday, November 13, during the anniversary of the attacks that killed 132 people and injured more than 350 in 2015.

The president described his pain in his speech “crazy, unfair, unbearable” victims and their loved ones. “There is nothing normal about this pent-up, disturbing pain that resurfaces every time another attack hits our soil.”said the head of state. “You have undergone the impossible test of normalcy, impossible sobriety, impossible life”added Emmanuel Macron, who also paid tribute to all the professions projected to be brutal on the night of the attack, from police to waiters, including elected officials and rescue workers.

“When terrorists want to attack democracy and freedom, France and Paris are their first targets”he added while confirming this “Republicans are holding out.” “Unfortunately, no one can guarantee an end to these attacks, but we can guarantee that for those who take up arms against France, the response will be difficult.”the president insisted. He also announced that the police officers who intervened at the Bataclan would be awarded the Legion of Honor.

“In fraternity, for the lives lost, the injured, families and loved ones, France remembers”wrote Emmanuel Macron in a message published in X earlier in the day, as he participated in a ceremony held in memory of the victims of jihadist attacks

On social networks, the President of the Republic published photos taken at various sites where wreaths were laid throughout the day. The names of those killed were read at each place and a few minutes of silence were observed.

This message from the President of the Republic echoes the speech delivered earlier in the day by Sophie Dias, daughter of Manuel Dias, who was killed in front of the Stade de France. “There is a void that cannot be filled, an absence that weighs on us every morning and evening for 10 years,” he said at the opening of the memorial.
