Dhe imagines things that will give you goosebumps… Almost one in ten Frenchmen (up to 12% among men) say they are ready to participate in this potentially deadly game for a large sum of money – a billion euros, in this case. Therefore, they risk death if they try anything in front of the camera… The figure rises to almost 20% among the 18-25 age group as well as among people affected by unemployment.
This is a YouGov survey of a thousand people representative of the French population*, commissioned by Paramount on the occasion of the film’s release Running Mana remake of the 1987 thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. This time, the hero is played by Glen Powell, who will do everything possible to escape from professional killers and try to win the final jackpot in a merciless game of survival.
30 million in Squid Game
The one billion at stake could explain some people’s enthusiasm for risking their lives tomorrow in a deadly game – a departure from the entertainment industry that today belongs to science fiction. But surveys show that almost 10% of the youngest people in France, aged 18-24, would agree to participate in a program of this kind with a profit of just one million euros, far from billions… As a reminder, in the hit series Squid Gamewhere candidates are physically eliminated when they fail the exam, the final amount that can be won is around 30 million euros.

Answer
For now, in a voyeuristic and hyper-connected society, only intimacy is for sale, not life, thank goodness: the advent of reality TV in the 2000s encouraged candidates to display their feelings and personal lives without any filter in exchange for money. A trend that will not stop, if we believe the YouGov agency: the same survey shows that one in five young people (25-35 years old) agrees to be filmed 24 hours a day without any privacy through a TV camera worth one million euros. And, at a time when AI is developing, 12% of adults agree to provide permanent access to all their thoughts, even the most secret, in exchange for a payment of one million to their account. Help!
*The survey was conducted on 1,010 people representing the French national population aged 18 years and over. The survey was conducted online, on a YouGov France panel, from 7 to 10 November 2025.
