“Our marriage has gone backwards”: At Asnières, there is no tolerance for excesses

The municipality of Asnières has been faced with excessive things at weddings on more than one occasion. “We have issued a decree regulating the marriage and asked the bride and groom to sign the charter,” said Manuel Aeschlimann, mayor of LR. The March 2019 decree stated that any traffic disturbances as well as “environmental disturbances observed directly or via video protection” would be subject to fines.

If there is a delay of between 30 minutes to an hour, the ceremony will be postponed until the end of the “daily schedule”. If the delay is more than an hour and causes “real disruption to celebration planning,” the ceremony will simply be canceled and postponed.

From a security perspective, the decree prohibits “sound demonstrations” (screams, music broadcasts, blowing horns, foghorns, drums, fanfare, etc.). The text does not talk about vuvuzelas… The text also prohibits anything that is a pyrotechnic device and “testing the use of drones” as well as “the display of flags, banners, posters or signs.” Lastly, there should be no action of throwing away “rice, flower petals or any other objects at the city hall” because this must be reimbursed for the costs incurred by the community.

In July 2024, the groom-to-be was arrested

And if all this is not respected, the civil status officer may decide to postpone or even cancel the wedding and postpone it to a later date… An action recently taken by the Mayor of Bry-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne). By signing the charter, the (future) couple promises to respect this decision and most importantly, inform their loved ones. In short, we are not laughing at Asnières, because we are sure that these actions are paying off.

“We tolerated the party, but recalling these measures will raise awareness of the situation,” commented Manuel Aeschlimann. Apart from that, the visible presence of the police has a deterrent effect. And in any case, the 1% of people who overdo things will keep doing the same things, no matter what. For them, this is no mercy, no tolerance. »

This does not prevent “marriages that are already somewhat in decline”, emphasizes Manuel Aeschlimann. “The police are always ready to intervene. We are securing the area around the city hall and the procession route…” continued the elected official. In July 2024, shortly before the ceremony, the party spiraled out of control with mortar fire and the arrest of the groom. In September 2023, a rodeo on the sidelines of the wedding resulted in four arrests including one of the witnesses and a trial the following January.
