What are the consequences of incidents carried out by Russia in the airspace of NATO countries?
Obviously, Russia’s goal is to increase tensions within NATO countries : Poland with Russian drone strikes on September 9 and 10, 2025, and Romania and Lithuania since then. More broadly, Russia is causing panic among the public and shaking up democratic regimes that are already experiencing deep divisions. The economic dimension is also important: when drone strikes force the closure of airports, this incurs costs of 10 million euros per day and means that activity can be halted overnight.
