Panathinaikos

Europe has punished Madrid again. After losing on Tuesday in Valencia, Scariolo’s team lost this time at home against Panathinaikos, their first defeat of the season on home field. The duel between giants, two of the last three European champions, was marked by Ataman’s troops with a display of ammunition: 19 points and 6 assists from TJ Shorts in his best game in green since arriving from Paris, 15 and 7 from the eternal Sloukas, and 16 points and 8 rebounds from the newly signed Kenneth Faried. Tavares (20 points and 10 rebounds) was left very alone.

Campazzo and Feliz against Shorts and Nunn. Lyles and Tavares vs. Juancho and Faried. The great duels first multiplied inside and outside at full speed. Shorts and

Rogkavopoulos hammered the basket from the perimeter and Feliz emerged to get rid of Nunn. Ataman’s team moved the ball quickly to find the free man under the fiery direction of Shorts and finished well in defence. In painting, Tavares had his work cut out for him with Faried, a physical prodigy. Abalde’s cut and goal overcome the local deficit before the first break (16-22).

Panathinaikos is loaded with dynamite. Sloukas, Osman and Mitoglou supported Nunn. Maledon lifted the crowd from their seats with a glide and Okeke scored three goals. Sloukas responded by agreeing with Llull in a comparison of legends. Real struggled to contain the relentless drive of Shorts and Nunn, the away success and explosiveness of Faried. Panathinaikos did badly in every way, they are very focused and very confident. The rival responded to every approach from White with a run to destroy the area: 38-52 at halftime.

Faried took a smack on the nose from Tavares, a monumental feat. Lyles’ dancing wasn’t enough for Madrid. It took the courage of Feliz, discovered by the gunner, to get back into the game. The Dominican point guard manages to match the energy of the Pao stars and accelerates towards the kitchen, but the replies from the men in green are many. Sloukas gave a master class on how to make a basket (59-73).

Panathinaikos had flown and now wanted to sleep the match. A carousel of interruptions and two minutes with the score frozen worked in their favor. Even a timid exchange of baskets didn’t help Real, who continued to run out the clock. Shorts, Nunn and Sloukas played to kill time against an unarmed white team.

The other two Spanish teams that played this Thursday also fell: Valencia away in Paris (90-86) and Baskonia in Belgrade against Maccabi Tel Aviv (89-83). This Friday Barcelona hosts Virtus Bologna.
