The cycling world is in mourning. Australian Paralympic cycling gold medalist Paige Greco died on Sunday aged 28, following a “sudden medical problem”, her family announced on Monday.
Paige Greco broke her own world record by winning the 3,000m individual running event in the C1-C3 category at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics.
He then added bronze medals in the road race and C1-3 time trial, cementing his status as a top competitor on both track and road. The young woman died on Sunday at her home in the southern Australian city of Adelaide.
“We are very proud of who he was”
“While we are devastated by his loss, we are incredibly proud of the person he was and the way he represented Australia,” his mother, Natalie Greco, said in a statement released by the Australian Cycling Federation (AusCycling).
“Paige values the relationships she makes through her sport, and we take comfort in knowing how much she is loved. »
