A major emergency system was deployed this Monday evening in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. The fire broke out in a residential building located on the main road Ornano/rue du Simplon, not far from Porte de Clignancourt, firefighters said, shortly after 11 p.m.
Two people were seriously injured, including one person who had to be resuscitated at the scene, firefighters told Le Parisien just before midnight. Another 22 people, drunk, suffered minor injuries and were evacuated to hospital if necessary. An “advanced medical post” was set up in a nearby bar, “La Goulette”, where victims could be treated, particularly with devices to help them breathe.
The fire broke out on the ground floor of the building, spreading smoke throughout the six-story building. Thus, the residents find themselves “prisoners” in their apartments, without the possibility of leaving them. Trucks equipped with large ladders were deployed to evacuate them through windows.
Shortly before midnight, the emergency response was still ongoing. A total of 110 specially deployed firefighters checked that no one was left in the apartment.
Boulevard Ornano as well as many nearby roads were closed to traffic while emergency services intervened.
