Mayor of Berlin and leader of the CDU Kai Wegner his party has officially nominated him as a candidate for DPR in the 2026 election. At the CDU district association party conference in Spandau, delegates nominated the 53-year-old as number one on the district list with 98 percent, a spokesman said. Based on information, there are 55 delegates who have the right to vote.
In addition, Wegner was nominated as a direct candidate in the Spandau 5 electoral district with Gatow and Kladow districts, according to information with 100 percent approval. There he confidently won an outright mandate in the 2023 re-election.
According to the constitution, the Berlin state parliament has at least 130 members. 78 of them are elected directly in electoral districts, the rest – depending on the party – through district or state lists. In CDU there is a list of districts. In June 2026, Berlin’s CDU wants to name Wegner as its top candidate, as it did in 2021 and 2023. Elections to the House of Representatives will then take place on 20 September 2026.
