It was supposed to be a relaxing five days at sea – but then the captain made an announcement that shocked the passengers.
According to consistent media reports, a passenger fell from the cruise ship “Disney Wonder.” As Australian news channel Seven News reported, the 73-year-old man fell into the sea at around 4:30 am on Saturday.
The cruise ship then turned around in the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand and searched for the missing person for several hours. A passenger reported that crew members scanned the water with a thermal imaging camera.
But the 73-year-old man is still missing. “It’s really sad,” said another passenger, describing the moment the captain broke the news to the passengers.
“Disney Wonder” has now continued its journey. The plane was expected to arrive in Auckland on New Zealand’s North Island a day later than planned, he said.
The Disney Cruise Line cruise ship left Melbourne, Australia, on November 20. The original plan was to spend five days and nights at sea, where Disney characters and shows would entertain the tourists.
The ship offers space for around 2,700 tourists. It is 294 meters long and eleven decks high.
