Rome, November 24 (Adnkronos) – Walter Verini and Andrea De Maria of the Democratic Party together with Marco Pellegrini of M5S, Ilaria Cucchi of Avs, Marco Lombardo of Azione and Ivan Scalfarotto of IV promoted a press conference in the Chamber “accepting the appeal of the Association of Family Members of Ustica Victims”. Press conference, ahead of the investigating judge’s decision to close the investigation, to ask for the government’s commitment to finding the truth.
“The investigation – explains Daria Bonfietti, president of the victims’ association – ended with a request for dismissal and this is not good for us. Unfortunately the court admitted that it could not determine who was behind the shooting down of a civil airliner in the context of an air war in peacetime. So if the court fails to do so, the power must be given by politics: if the dismissal is recognized on Wednesday, “this affair” cannot be resolved in this way, with a lack of truth. I believe that the Republic does not want it and cannot afford it”.
De Maria added: “I believe that this battle is very important for two reasons. The first is that we have a moral obligation to do justice to what happened. The second is that we have a responsibility towards the country: that day there was an air battle in the skies of our country and therefore a very serious violation of our country’s sovereignty occurred. Diplomatic action is necessary towards France and the United States so that they provide the information they have to the Italian government about what happened in the skies of Ustica and this commitment falls to our government. There is not a desire for political controversy but a demand for truth and justice that uniting all institutions”.
