The latest plan to end Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine was not created by the United States, according to two US senators. “That’s not our recommendation, that’s not our peace plan,” Republican Senator Mike Rounds said at a security forum in Halifax, Canada, citing a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to Senator Angus King, the 28-point plan is “basically a Russian wish list.”
According to the senators shouted Rubio them and made it clear that the US was “a recipient of the proposal,” Rounds said. This was left to US intermediaries. Rounds described the draft as a “proposal” that has not been made public by the United States. “It leaked,” said the senator from the US state of South Dakota, referring to recent media reports of the plan.
Senator King of Maine described the draft as “a guide to narrowing the points of contention between Ukraine and Russia.” Now we must seek peace “that respects Ukraine’s integrity and sovereignty, does not reward aggression and offers appropriate security guarantees.”
The peace plan demands major concessions from Ukraine
The draft peace plan has been circulating in US media for days. This statement contains 28 points, many of which are particularly favorable to Russia. Ukraine, in turn, was asked to make major concessions. US President Donald Trump initially asked Ukraine to approve the plan on Thursday. But he later hinted that it might not be his final offer.
Because of the peace plan, Kyiv and its European allies entered crisis mode. This week, representatives from Germany, France and the UK as well as the EU want to meet with United States of America and Ukraine discussed the plan. The goal of Ukraine’s allies is to negotiate what they see as unacceptable concessions by Russia from the 28-point plan. The meeting in Geneva will take place at the advisory level to heads of state and government.
