The government will table amendments aimed at extending the suspension of pension reform for long-term careers, as requested by left-wing groups, government spokeswoman Maud Bregeon announced on Monday.
“The government will table amendments on Wednesday to allow the Assembly to debate (…) the question of long careers,” said a government representative on BFMTV.
MEPs should discuss on Wednesday, as part of an examination of the draft Social Security budget, the suspension of pension reforms which, at this stage, only concern common law pensioners.
The amendment will be submitted for discussion in Parliament
This suspension was a condition set by the socialists so as not to censor the government at the start of the budget debate. Environmentalists and communists in particular demanded that long-term careers be included in this suspension through a government amendment.
The government’s amendments will detail the relevant audiences and will be submitted for discussion to Parliament which will take a decision, the spokesperson said.
Labor Minister Jean-Pierre Farandou last week indicated that Matignon was “open to the expansion of interest groups” in suspending reforms, particularly long-term careers.
“Taxes cannot be the answer to everything, all the time”
If the examination of the Social Security Financing Project (PLFSS) is not completed by Wednesday, the text will still be submitted to the Senate due to constitutional deadlines.
If a vote is held, implementation will depend largely on abstentions. But Maud Bregeon also issued a “warning” to the opposition: “Taxes cannot be the answer to everything, all the time. »
Therefore, he said he was “ready to take alternative steps” to increase medical expense deductions that would be “financed by savings” and not by “new tax proposals.”
