pg Milan asks for confirmation of 4 year sentence for Irene Pivetti – Il Tempo

Milan, November 18 (Adnkronos) – The Milan Prosecutor’s Office has requested, in the appeal process, confirmation of the sentence against former Chamber president Irene Pivetti accused of self-laundering and tax evasion. On September 26, 2004, the judge of the fourth criminal section of the Milan court sentenced the defendant to 4 years in prison and ordered the confiscation of more than 3.4 million euros.

In the first instance, rally driver Leonardo Isolani and his wife Manuela Mascoli were also sentenced to two years (suspended sentence). The request to confirm the sentence pronounced today in the courtroom by the prosecutor’s representative Giovanni Tarzia (the same prosecutor as the first trial), also concerns the two defendants. “We are satisfied with the trial and are confident that the Milan Court of Appeal will give due value to the many reasons presented both from a procedural and substantive point of view, to restore to Irene Pivetti the long-awaited substantial justice,” said the defense, lawyer Filippo Cocco who asked for acquittal, to Adnkronos.

The next hearing, for any answers and responses, is scheduled for December 10. Milan’s investigation focused on a series of commercial operations, in particular the sale of three Ferrari Gran Turismos, which were allegedly used to hide tax evasion. Irene Pivetti, as attorney for a company based in Poland and another in Hong Kong, is accused, along with other suspects, of helping to evade huge taxes. In particular, Irene Pivetti is said to have evaded taxes amounting to almost 3.5 million euros, which was then used in entrepreneurial and financial activities, leading to her being accused of laundering herself.
