Philipp Türmer at the startBoss Juso asked the SPD leadership to stop reforming citizens’ benefits
The SPD membership request brought new problems for the black-red coalition. The signatories do not want stricter sanctions on citizens’ money. Influential Chairman Juso is one of them.
There is a new dispute in the SPD over citizens’ money. At least 4,000 party members have signed a petition asking party leaders to cancel plans to tighten citizens’ money. One of the signatories, Juso federal chairman Philipp Türmer, called on the SPD leadership to halt the reforms. “Of course I expect my party leadership to consider this again – and if members’ requests help them do that, that would be great.”
The Juso boss defended the newspaper’s demands not to tighten sanctions on citizens’ money. The key is to get receivers back to work better and faster. “Sanctions don’t help at all.” It is impossible for someone to completely lose contact and possibly end up on the street because it is the fourth time he has not opened a letter from the job center. “I strongly recommend that the federal government not do things that are unconstitutional.”
It is absurd to claim that the SPD now cares more about the unemployed than workers, Türmer said. Their interests should not be pitted against each other again and again. “You should not act as if the unemployed are responsible for the economic crisis.”
Türmer called for a process to ban the AfD
The Juso boss also put pressure on the debate about banning the AfD. A coalition committee on Thursday should address the issue. The reason was the statement of Federal President Steinmeier, who indirectly implemented the prohibition procedure. “It is a good sign if you receive this encouragement from the Federal President,” Türmer said.
Chairman Juso said he did not understand why the Union blocked the ban. “The European Union must also have an interest in defending this democracy.” Like all democratic parties, it is threatened by the “fascist” AfD, Türmer said. “I hope this fight finally ends there.”
The Juso boss said that prohibition is the final instrument but also important if a party has a clear intention to eliminate democracy. This is what happened to the AfD. “We hope the federal government takes appropriate steps to protect the constitution and our constitutional state.” Türmer called for a meeting of federal-state groups discussing AfD affairs to gather information. “The goal must be clear: this party that wants to eliminate democracy must be banned.”
