A race to the garage, a chaste hug with his girlfriend Laila and a “dressing room” hug with Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill, and then a “five” exchange with the fans, selfies and autographs on the tricolor around the Pala Alpitour in Turin. Jannik Sinner’s night of celebrations had already begun with an unusual celebration at the end of the final, with the blue player lying on the ground, before a blaze of joy. Unbearable, almost more intense than when he won his first Slam.
And he himself explained why: “Winning in front of the home crowd, for the Italian public, is something special.” So after appearing in the final with Carlos Alcaraz, the champion from Sesto Val Pusteria turned on another show on the field, more popular and chaotic.
Videos A Feast for Sinners, for Morandi: ‘You give me good luck’
A party was filmed by TV, photographers and the images went viral on social media: sparkling wine was opened in the dressing room with his team jumping with him and the master’s cup in the foreground. Then a family photo, absent parents (the champion himself said that they had more important things), posing there was his brother Mark and his girlfriend Laila Hasanovic (among the most immortalized this week in Turin) who brought the dog Snoopy with him and showed off a beautiful ring on his finger, sparking a rush of gossip.
The little scene with Gianni Morandi was hilarious. “I heard you. You gave me luck,” said Sinner when he met the singer from Bologna. “I hear you,” the tennis player’s underscore was a reference to Morandi’s singing performance ahead of the final.
“Isn’t it true? You listen – answered the singer – What a pleasure. In Italy there is Ferrari, Armani and you. In the world there is only you. Great, I love you”. The atmosphere was a national celebration as if the Azzurri had won.
Many VIPs gathered in the stands to witness Sinner’s victory: from tennis friends such as Jasmine Paolini, Matteo Berrettini, Lorenzo Sonego, and former players Flavia Pennetta and Fabio Fognini. Also present in the stands were skier Federica Brignone, Olympic champion Antonio Rossi and Alex Di Giorgio. And football representatives, many in Turin, perhaps more than in Milan follow Gattuso’s national team.
Juve’s new coach Luciano Spalletti was in the stands applauding, as were Milik, Bremer, Perin, Rugani, Paleari, Casadei, Biraghi and Schuurs; but also Alex Del Piero, Max Allegri and Fabio Capello in previous days. The world of entertainment was not left behind: singers Luciano Ligabue, Alfa and Sarah Toscano, actors Luca Bizzarri and Andrea Pisani, former Miss Italia Eleonora Pedron and Cristina Chiabotto. Then again chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo. Politics is clearly in the local government, deputies, senators and ministers Andrea Abodi and Paolo Zangrillo.
