The Supreme Court sentenced Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz to a two-year ban and to pay a fine of 7,200 euros and 10,000 euros to Alberto González Amador for revealing secrets. The complete sentence has not yet been written; The Supreme Court only advanced the ruling.
The court’s decision comes less than a week after the hearing for the sentence in the trial against Álvaro García Ortiz, accused of having leaked an email that Alberto González Amador’s lawyer had sent to the Prosecutor’s Office.
García Ortiz has defended his innocence from the beginning and denies having leaked the email that gave rise to the case. Throughout the trial he refused to resign, but the two-year ban issued by the Supreme Court will force him to leave office as soon as the final sentence is notified.
