The Polish Prime Minister denounced on Monday 17 November a “unprecedented act of sabotage”after the discovery of rails damaged by an explosion on a railway line to Ukraine, where Poland is a strong ally.
“Blow up the railroad tracks (…) was an unprecedented act of sabotage directed against the security of the Polish state and its citizens”wrote Donald Tusk, in English, in X, after visiting the scene of the incident on Monday, in Mika, 100 kilometers southeast of Warsaw.
“This route is also very important for transporting aid to Ukraine”he added. According to the head of government, the attack occurred on this section of the road “probably aimed at derailing the train”which could have been avoided thanks to the alertness of the driver who saw the damage and raised the alarm. No one was hurt. “We will arrest the perpetrator, whoever is behind it”Mr. Tusk promised.
Since the start of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, Poland, which is a member of NATO and the EU, has said its country was the target of sabotage efforts orchestrated by Russia.
