“Proud of you” – Il Tempo

Jannik Sinner is a Master of Masters. Jannik won the ATP Finals in Turin by beating Carlos Alcaraz in the final with a score of 7-6, 7-5 in two and a quarter hours of play. The ATP Finals final between Sinner and Alcaraz did not disappoint expectations. The two battled each other well and in the first set there was no shortage of very hard and spectacular blows. Alcaraz had a powerful forehand, but Sinner always responded in his own way. The first break point went to the Spaniard at 6-5, a ball that also represented set point. As usual in this tournament, Sinner managed to resolve the situation with his serve. But this time, with a second strong angle he surprised his opponent. In the tie-break, Sinner won, playing better and closing the set seven points to four. For him a record of winning 18 consecutive sets in the Final.

The serve that had been Sinner’s main weapon throughout the tournament seemed to fail in the second set: two double faults and none before that allowed the Spaniard to break early and then take a 2-0 lead. It was an empty road, also because from the third game the Italian again won his turn of serve (despite keeping his first ball percentage below 50%) even though he remained behind in the score.

Sinner performs an encore! Alcaraz was knocked out in two sets, he is a master of ATP masters

Just enough time for a few games and Sinner counter-breaks to make it 3-3. The next round was the longest set and was won by Sinner with great difficulty. The South Tyrolean was forced to call off another break point and, once again, served second. This time the exchange started, but Alcaraz made a mistake, much to the delight of the crowd. A very tough round, also demonstrated by the unusual attitude of Sinner who, after achieving an extraordinary point, turned to the audience and asked for open applause.

This brings us to 6-5 and Alcaraz serves. And then comes the break point which is also a match point. A very difficult rally from the baseline, a mistake by the Spaniard and Sinner confirmed himself as champion at the ATP Finals for the second year in a row.

“Proud of you. Champion.” So on Facebook Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed Sinner’s victory by posting a photo of him.
