PSG are looking down the drainThe Bayern woman celebrated thanks to a quick equalizer and a dream solo
The women of Paris St. Germain was not as successful as her male counterparts. FC Bayern took advantage of this – and won their away game in France. The German soccer champions took a big step towards the CL playoffs.
Bayern Munich footballers have taken a big step towards the knockout stages of the Champions League. Coach José Barcala’s team won 3-1 (2-1) at Paris Saint-Germain in the evening. After a third win in the fourth game, double winners Germany are at least almost certain of a ticket to the playoffs, and direct passage to the quarterfinals is still within reach.
Linda Dallmann (17th), Momoko Tanikawa (35th) and Jovana Damnjanovic (89th) secured their ninth competitive win in a row. After a 3-2 spectacle after trailing 2-0 against reigning champions FC Arsenal the previous week, the Munich side traveled to Paris with the wind at their back and were now picking up the pace there.
Paris sensed an opportunity, but it was in vain
With nine points on their account, Bayern are in an excellent position to progress ahead of the remaining two games in the league phase. Meanwhile, despite Sakina Karchaoui’s goal (16), the French woman still had to wait for her first point in the premier class.
At Prinzenpark, the Munich women’s team dominated the early stages and didn’t let early setbacks put them off – Dallmann’s reply soon followed. The Bundesliga leaders then kept the pressure high. The best goal of the night was scored by Tanikawa, who used a physical illusion to allow his two opponents space and put the ball under the crossbar to give Bayern the lead.
Even after the break, the Munich team controlled the game, but became increasingly passive. Paris sensed their chance, instead Pernille Harder failed to make an early decision in favor of the visitors in the closing stages and hit the crossbar (73′). PSG tried to score an equalizer. Bayern defended before Damnjanovic made a decision.
