Pyrénées-Atlantiques: investigation opened after the death of a 12-year-old schoolboy

A drama that raises questions. On the first day of the All Saints’ Day holiday, a 12-year-old schoolboy was found dead in his parents’ home in Saint-Pierre-d’Irube (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). According to our colleagues from ICI Basque Country, the teenager committed suicide.

“Third party intervention is excluded and criminal traces are ruled out,” explained the Bayonne prosecutor’s office, which has opened an investigation to determine the cause of the child’s death. The investigation, at this time, has not revealed any “context of abuse,” prosecutors added.

“Listening to individuals”

According to our colleagues, he studied at the Aturri college in Saint-Pierre-d’Irube and was a member of the commune’s municipal children’s council. A hearing and support unit was established within the institution at the start of the school year.

The Pau academic inspectorate added to Ici Pays basque that they “mobilized the institution’s management team, psychologists from National Education and the medico-social team. All students, as well as members of the educational community who wish, can benefit from individual listening time.”
