Johannesburg, November 22 (askanews) – At the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni dedicated her speech to discussing the debt problem of African countries and the need to build truly equal relations with the continent. The Prime Minister claimed Italy’s commitment to debt reduction and conversion as a driver of development, inviting other leaders to follow the same path.
The following is an excerpt from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s speech before the G20:
“To build an Africa that is truly able to compete on equal terms, it is clear that we cannot ignore the debt burden that burdens many countries on this continent. Therefore – said Meloni – Italy has also decided to reduce the debt of low- and middle-income countries by 50% over the next 10 years and most importantly to convert all the debt of least developed countries into an investment plan for these countries. This is a choice that I consider a choice of justice and responsibility, which we hope other countries will follow. We believe that this is the right path to take in development development and we can do it together with humility and, most importantly, with respect for others.”
