“Respecting legality and protecting fragility, this must change” – Il Tempo

Rome, November 20 (Adnkronos/Labitalia) – “The social security system should encourage an active presence on the labor market, reward legality and correct contributions and combat illegal employment.” This was stated by Roberto Ghiselli, president of the supervisory and policy board of INPS, on the occasion of the ‘Previdenza Next Gen’ seminar in Rome.

Ghiselli highlighted the main weaknesses of the current system, starting with the younger generation, “who will have fewer pensions, disjointed careers, lower wages and a job market characterized by precariousness”. But he also underlined the conditions of those who do “very heavy and burdensome work”, which is often characterized by lower life expectancy: “With the current system they risk doing reverse solidarity, paying for other people’s pensions. We need special recognition for this category”, he underlined.

The theme of gender was also at the heart of her speech: “Women are penalized both in work and in social security: the average seniority of contributions is 28 years compared to 38 years for men and the difference in treatment exceeds 30%. Care work must also be recognized, which many are forced to do by postponing their work.” Finally, Ghiselli highlights the important role of patronage, and in particular Acli: “They must not only manage the practice, but also accompany people throughout their working life and retirement, offering education and social security support in vulnerable situations: from unemployment to leave, from bonuses to cases of gender violence. Guaranteeing rights and social protection is an important task”, he concluded.
