“Rino Gaetano – Always bluer”, in cinemas, livelier than ever – Il Tempo

Rome, November 21 (askanews) – “Rino Gaetano – Semper più blu”, which opens in cinemas on November 24, 25 and 26, is a living portrait, full of testimonies and archival images, of a singer-songwriter who died more than thirty years ago but is still very much alive in everyone’s memory, like his songs: from “Gianna” to “Ma il cielo è semper blu”, released 50 years ago. Director Giorgio Verdelli, Rino’s friend, takes us back to the great seventies for Italian music, to introduce the unique personality of the brilliant singer.

“He’s irreverent, he’s not against it. Some of his colleagues are against it, he’s not under any banner and he has the luxury to make fun of everyone” explains the director. This singer-songwriter from Calabria is in fact able to describe the difficulties and beauty of his era sharply, between satire and poetry, between genius and provocation. He was not considered a committed musician but he took clear photographs of society, with a tone of lightness, irony and sometimes unreality.

Many voices, from his sister and nephew, to Riccardo Cocciante, Danilo Rea, Sergio Cammariere, Brunori Sas, Lucio Corsi, give us aspects of his personality and music. “I believe that perhaps the young people of Rino Gaetano have achieved this extreme joy, but by saying the right things. – says Verdelli – So truth and freedom are what make Rino Gaetano paradoxically more current today than some others who instead sold a lot of records at the time but today are sidelined”.
