There was a riot at the Lower Rhine Cup match between FC Büderich and Wuppertaler SV. After the hosts took a 1-0 lead shortly before the end of the game, around 40 Wuppertal fans stormed the inside of the stadium, police said. Based on information, the rioters threw iron bars, bars and seat shells around them.
Emergency services prevented the incident from spreading to nearby people and used batons and pepper spray. Six troublemakers suffered mild eye irritation and were treated by emergency services. The police officer was not injured.
Police temporarily arrested the group to determine their identities and initiated criminal proceedings for breach of the peace. After the action was over, the fans were taken back to Wuppertal by bus. Criminal police are investigating.
