Rugby: Malcolm Marx voted world player of the year 2025

This was expected, but now it’s official. Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx has just been voted the best rugby player in the world for 2025. Winning in the Rugby Championship this summer and undefeated in Europe during the autumn tour after a crushing win in Ireland this Saturday, South Africa swept everything in their path this year and the title of best player in the world is no less important.

Malcolm Marx became the first hooker to win this individual title since Keith Wood in 2001. The Irishman was at that time hooker in a team in full progress and club Harlequins, winners of the European Challenge.

Malcolm Marx plays in Japan, at Kubota Spears in Tokyo. However, with South Africa the 31 year old player took home the main trophy. A Rugby Championship winner, he is one of the most influential players in the best teams in the world.
