Salini (Webuild) “Steel-infrastructure synergy is important for the country” – Il Tempo

BERGAMO (ITALPRESS) – “The steel industry and large infrastructure are key assets for the sovereignty and competitiveness of our state system. This two-way relationship is not only economic, but structural for people’s daily lives. We often forget how much steel and infrastructure have transformed Italy, contributing to its transition from an agrarian country to an industrial country. This was stated by Pietro Salini, CEO of Webuild on the occasion of the Federacciai General Meeting held in Bergamo.
In this synergy, Webuild establishes itself as one of the largest buyers of steel in Italy, directly supporting production and employment in this sector. In the three year period 2023-2025 alone, the Group made steel purchases exceeding 800 million euros in Italy.
“Infrastructure is the engine of GDP growth and employment in all related sectors, but to realize this potential we need a solid and globally competitive Italian industry,” continued Salini.
“We need simpler rules, realistic goals and an industrial vision that supports our production system in the face of foreign excess capacity, especially China. We also need large Italian companies and their supply chains to collaborate synergistically to truly create a state system,” continued Salini.
We cannot ignore the steel industry as a strategic sector. Supporting the supply chain – second in Europe in terms of volume and first in terms of electric stove production – is essential to guarantee quality jobs and also ensure the welfare policies we enjoy today for future generations.”
“Italian steel, recognized for its quality and durability, is an indispensable resource for the ongoing infrastructure plans – the largest since the Second World War – and for the future. Steel is a supporting element that guarantees the safety and reliability of important works that are redesigning the country’s mobility even today – concluded Salini – such as the new high-speed railway lines Terzo Valico dei Giovi, Verona-Padua, Naples-Bari, Salerno-Reggio Calabria and high capacity Palermo-Catania-Messina”.
