Sarkozy, today the Court of Appeal examined the request for acquittal

The Paris Court of Appeal will today, Monday 10 November, examine the request for acquittal submitted by the lawyers of former French president Nicolas Skarkozy, Christophe Ingrain and Jean-Michel Darrois. French media wrote about this, explaining that the trial is public and will be held in the former Court of Appeals building, on the Ile de la Cité, in Paris. Sarkozy will not be physically present and must be heard via video conference, unless he chooses not to attend and prefers to be represented by his lawyer, Bfmtv wrote, but described this option as ”unlikely”.

The Appeal Court’s decision could come as early as today, although there is no certainty yet, continued Bfmtv. If Sarkozy is released, he could leave prison within hours, once the administrative formalities of his release are completed. However, if the former president is still detained before trial, his lawyers can submit a new request for release on the same day. This request could be stayed until an appeal hearing in the Libya case, which is expected to take place in the coming months.
