Our young generation is in bad shape! And when the conditions of our young generation are bad, the conditions of our cities are bad, our villages are bad, our country is bad. Our duty to everyone, adults and especially women and politicians, is to do everything to preserve our young generation. Including the country’s financial difficulties.
For 15 years, the civil service has been the only large-scale system that allows young people in France to meet and form society in the heart of the region; the only system that allows young people to get involved in their country while developing their employability in a real and proven way. A device that is now a “saving” tool for many of our young generation.
However, at a time when it is necessary to reconcile the efficiency and social relevance of such measures in budgetary reflection, at a time when even the Court of Auditors welcomed the relevance of this system, PLF26 stipulates cuts to the civil service budget of 115 million euros, with the consequent risk of eliminating 110,000 positions by 2026.
Let us remember, the Civil Service is:
young people who give an average of 8 months of their lives for the common good and thus foster the values of citizenship, commitment, fraternity, intergenerational solidarity… young people like French society: school dropouts as well as graduates, rural and urban young people, girls and boys, able-bodied young people as well as people with disabilities… young people who, while helping others, take time to think about their future projects and their direction, and find more 75%, jobs or training at the end of young people who have gained experience of diversity and appear proud of having contribute to their country, and be more aware of their role and place in our society. young people who receive a small stipend from the State (and their host structures)… because they are committed to others and give more than 24 hours a week to this commitment in the public interest. young people who provide real service to the voluntary sector and public services, thereby enabling them to improve the services provided to society, the poorest groups, or even to preserve the planet. Unfortunately a system that is still under-promoted… But the system is already under-resourced because by 2025 we will already have two young candidates for every available place.
Few public actions can say the same… We are therefore entitled to ask the only remaining question in trying to understand the government’s planned budget cuts to the Civil Service: do we really want to sacrifice our young people? Does the state also have to bear the burden of state financial difficulties? Do we want to stop investing in social cohesion and call young people to action for a better future, theirs and our country’s?
We, the mayors of France, both in rural and urban areas, reject this and solemnly call on our parliamentarians and governments to maintain 150,000 civil service positions annually, and not force young people and those with few effective systems to bear the losses caused by our political and financial situation.
Let us not sacrifice young people who think too much about their future and choose to commit to helping themselves by helping others.
