Munich singer-songwriter Konstantin Wecker faces serious accusations: A 30-year-old woman told “Süddeutsche Zeitung” (SZ) that the artist had an intimate relationship with her when she was underage. She met Wecker as a student at age 15 after attending a concert. Wecker was 63 years old at the time. In 2011 and 2012 he was said to have exchanged chat messages and made telephone calls with the young man almost every day; the woman also reported multiple sexual encounters in hotel rooms after she turned 16. The description raises new questions in the debate about power imbalances and the responsibilities of leading artists towards young fans.
Konstantin Wecker acknowledged through a lawyer that, as he recalled at the time, it was “a consensual relationship with the young woman, which, however, based on moral standards, represented completely inappropriate behavior” on his part.

Two weeks ago, Wecker canceled all of his current tour appearances for this month. He has been seriously ill since earlier this month and is now undergoing inpatient treatment, his lawyer wrote.
