Severe weather in Liguria: orange alert sounds in Genoa, landslides a concern – News

An orange warning, the maximum level of thunderstorms, will be triggered across Liguria at midday. It’s the avalanches that are now worrying: Aurelia di Arenzano, near the Pizzo tunnel, has been closed as a precaution. Local police indicated the A10 as an alternative route. Two roads in Ceranesi, a small town in the upper part of Valpolcevera, were closed due to numerous landslides: the government has confirmed that the two hamlets are not completely isolated. Landslide in Cogorno along provincial road 34. The road was closed to vehicle traffic also due to fallen trees on the road surface. And there are still many large trees that have fallen due to the rain. Firefighters stepped in yesterday to remove large trunks of pine trees and centuries-old trees that had fallen across roads and power lines.

Yesterday firefighters carried out 252 interventions throughout the region to secure areas devastated by rain and a strong tornado that threw 12 containers, overturned a van and broke the windows of the Genoese delegation’s shop.

The carriages of the Sant’Anna di Genoa Castelletto cable car remained blocked due to a fallen tree near the tracks: the passengers on board were evacuated by firefighters and were not injured. The fallen tree disrupted public transport services in the city center between Piazza Portello and Via Bertani. Relocation and safety interventions by firefighters are underway between Bertani and via Bottaro. People have been safely removed from the carriages and firefighters are working to clear the lanes maintained by public transport company AMT and surrounding road traffic.

The weather is improving in the Genoa area but a storm is expected in the evening which could cause concern if the weather is static. Therefore, the Municipal Operations Center remains on standby to deal with any emergency situations. For tomorrow Coc decided to reopen schools but not open cemeteries, gardens and parks because “we have to carry out a series of checks”.

Arpal extends orange alert in Liguria’s Central Levante

Arpal has extended the orange alert from Spotorno (Savona) to the border with Tuscany. Only in Western Liguria are time slots confirmed with the orange alert ending at 9pm, then yellow until midnight.

Weekend disruptions in Liguria also characterized this Sunday where in the morning there was heavy rain in the Genoa region which has now moved to the east of the city. Therefore, in the Genoa region, the orange warning will end at 23.59 today, followed by the yellow warning until 08.00 tomorrow, Monday 17 November. The same extension in Eastern Liguria (in the large basin, the yellow warning will end at 10:00 tomorrow, Monday).

In the Stura and Bormida valleys and inland to Savona, the orange alert ends at 21.00 today, Sunday 16 November, followed by the yellow alert until midnight today, while in the Scrivia, D’Aveto and Trebbia valleys, the orange alert ends at 23.59 today, followed by the yellow alert until 08.00 tomorrow, Monday 17 November.

In the afternoon, heavy to moderate rain is expected in the east central part of the region with the possibility of organized and persistent thunderstorms possible in already saturated areas. By Monday morning, the last remaining phenomena are expected to gradually disappear. Winds will remain strong, tomorrow too, throughout the region except the western slopes of the Po Valley and as a result the sea will be between rough and very rough on all coasts, and offshore. The nature of storm forecasting requires special attention due to the possible impacts associated with the persistence of such storms in a particular region, where a stationary storm structure will be constructed. The Regional Operating Room remains open during the alert period.

The yellow warning extends to most of Tuscany

The disturbances passing through Tuscany became more intense and in addition to rain and thunderstorms, also brought strong winds. For this reason, explained the Region, the regional civil protection operations room came into effect starting at 21.00 today, a warning that has been implemented with code yellow in almost all areas of the region, including the archipelago. The bulletin update “extends the warning to the whole of Monday 17 November and concerns not only strong thunderstorms and hydrogeological and hydraulic risks on the small network but also storm surge and wind gusts”.
