The Senate has set a course for the publication of investigative files on the case of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Democratic Party minority leader, Chuck Schumer, asked the House for approval on Tuesday evening (local time) so that the law that had just passed the House could be passed without delay.
Schumer used a procedure called “unanimous consent.” This allows the Senate to pass legislation through the chamber without a formal vote, provided no senators object. Therefore, it is very likely that the manuscript will reach US President Donald Trump’s desk at the right time. However, he ultimately still had to sign the law.
Hours earlier, Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives had voted with just one dissenting vote to release the Epstein investigation files. Trump had previously opposed it, but then changed his policy at the end of last week – when it became clear what the outcome would be -.
