Shots were fired just blocks from the White House in Washington on Wednesday evening. Two members of the National Guard were hit. The condition is still unclear. A suspect was arrested, police said.
The White House, the seat of US President Donald Trump’s government, has been closed and is in a state of “lockdown”.
Trump commented on Truth Social shortly after the incident – and confirmed that two National Guardsmen were “seriously injured”. “The animal that shot two members of the National Guard will pay a very heavy price,” Trump said.
