Singles Day opens the shopping season in November before Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Mediamarkt, Saturn, Lidl, Teufel, Dyson and many other online stores now celebrate bargain hunter’s day every year on November 11th.
Although the event was relatively unknown in Germany a few years ago, today it is one of the days that bargain hunters should mark on their calendars.

Singles Day originally came from China. Every November 11th, singles have a reason to party and fall in love. This tradition started in 1993 at Nanjing University and has little to do with shopping. China’s largest online store, Alibaba, ensures worldwide recognition. He declared the day a shopping holiday, where singles should give themselves gifts, and since then he has continued to lure people with attractive offers.
Currently, it is the biggest shopping event in the world – even before Black Friday. In 2020, the day generated nearly $47.7 billion in sales, more than Amazon’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined.
