Jannik Sinner won the final against his great rival Carlos Alcaraz and achieved another victory in the ATP Finals. A medical incident causes a moment of shock.

Jannik Sinner, overcome by his emotions, fell to the floor, then went to his box and was presented with a hug from his girlfriend and model Laila Hasanovic. The Italian tennis star secured the title at the ATP Finals for the second time in a row in a thrilling final against great opponent Carlos Alcaraz.

“I’m very happy with the way I handled the situation. It means a lot to me,” said the 24-year-old. After several top-class rallies, he won 7:6 (7:4), 7:5 and put an exclamation point in the long-running rivalry with the Spanish world number one. “There couldn’t have been a better end to the season,” said Sinner, who was sidelined for three months due to a doping ban.

For Sinner, it was only the second victory in his last nine official duels with Alcaraz. However, the local hero lost the battle for world No. 1 at the end of the year against his rival at the home tournament in Turin.

Sinner follows in Federer’s footsteps

The 24-year-old Sinner became the youngest player since Switzerland’s Roger Federer in 2004 to successfully defend his title at the prestigious Player of the Year tournament. Sinner also extended his impressive winning streak on indoor hard courts to 31 matches.

On the court, these two extraordinary talents showed why they are currently playing in a league that is different from the rest of the tennis world for almost all pundits. In the first set tiebreak, Sinner especially shone with two sensational lobs.

Right at the start of the second set, Alcaraz had tape tied to his right thigh, causing Sinner to lose his first serve of the entire tournament. With a bit of luck – an illegal double touch during a shot that should have been disallowed – and skill on the break, he equalized at 3:3. Then Alcaraz broke his final service game and Sinner was the winner after 2:15.

Another medical incident in the stands

The match started with a surprising moment. After two deaths among tournament visitors last Monday, there was another medical incident, but nothing too serious. In the first set, when the score was 2-1 to Alcaraz, the match was stopped for about ten minutes because a woman was lying on the floor in the stands. Paramedics rushed to help. Organizers later announced that the woman was fine again and had left the arena.

Alcaraz and Sinner have faced each other in the finals of three of the four Grand Slam tournaments this year. They each won two major tournaments in 2025 and lead the world rankings by a large margin ahead of third-ranked Alexander Zverev of Hamburg.
