Donald Trump made a mistake in seeking revenge against his enemies. In his desire to place loyal prosecutors in key roles to prosecute his opponents, the president miscalculated and the mistake resulted in the dismissal of charges against two of the most hated tycoon charactersand John Bolton: James Comey and Letitia James. Judge Cameron Currie had actually dismissed the cases against the former FBI director and New York prosecutor because Trump’s appointment of Lindsey Halligan as prosecutor was “unlawful.”

Specifically, we read in the sentence, the president violated a law that limits the Justice Department’s ability to appoint top prosecutors without Senate confirmation. The former presidential lawyer and former beauty queen was appointed attorney general for the Eastern District of Virginia in September, with the aim of more aggressively prosecuting the tycoon’s political enemies. For the judge “Mrs Halligan has unlawfully held this role since 22 September 2025”. Therefore, “all actions resulting from the appointment constitute an unlawful exercise of executive power and must be rescinded.” But the judge dismissed the case “without prejudice,” meaning it can be refiled.

Comey’s lawyers have warned that they will fight the new charges, arguing that the statute of limitations in the case expired in September. Nominated by Barack Obama in 2013 and confirmed by Trump, The former FBI director led the investigation into Russian interference in the first election won by The Donald. The so-called Russiagate, which in recent years has been branded by the American president as the mother of all “witch hunts” of which he claims to be a victim: one of the biggest “lies” in history, he loves to repeat.

At the heart of the indictment is Comey’s testimony before the US Senate Judiciary Committee on September 30, 2020.

On that occasion, Republican Ted Cruz asked him to comment on his hearing three years earlier, when he denied having authorized FBI officials to release sensitive information regarding the Trump and Clinton investigations. Comey made it clear he wouldn’t allow it. However, attorney Andrew McCabe, the FBI deputy director who leaked the story to the Wall Street Journal, stated in 2018 that Comey knew everything. Hence the charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.

As for Letitia James, the Manhattan prosecutor who Donald was sentenced to pay half a billion dollars in fines for inflating his company’s assetswas charged by Halligan with bank fraud and making false statements in the purchase of a home in Norfolk, Virginia. Both have always maintained their innocence, and accused Trump of “political revenge”.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon announced that it had done so launched an investigation into Democrat Mark Kelly over possible violations of military law, after the senator recorded a video, along with five other lawmakers, in which he asked American soldiers not to follow orders deemed illegal. The Pentagon statement cited a federal law that allows retired soldiers to be recalled to duty on the order of the Secretary of Defense and tried in a military court. Kelly served in the Navy as a fighter pilot before becoming an astronaut.
