Slippery ice: Lightning ice paralyzed flight operations at Cologne/Bonn for 45 minutes

The airport was closed due to lightning ice Cologne/Bonn had to suspend flight operations for 45 minutes in the afternoon. The runway had to be de-iced, a spokesman said. This causes occasional departure delays. The spokesperson could not say how many flights and passengers were affected. Operations were suspended between 4 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. Flight operations then resumed. Cologne/Bonn Airport has a total of three runways.

The German Weather Service has warned of black ice in parts of Germany in the afternoon and evening. Snowfall and freezing rain could make roads and sidewalks slippery in some places, he said.
