After the 1:4 home defeat against PSV Eindhoven, coach Arne Slot was criticized more than ever. The media and club legends judged it harshly.

Liverpool FC’s crisis worsened after a bitter 4-1 defeat in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven. Coach Slot’s side managed to close the deficit early in the match, but then suffered another home disaster a few days after a 3-0 Premier League defeat against Kellerkind Nottingham Forest. “It’s a shock – for the players, for journalists, for me, for all of us,” Slot said after the match. “It’s very, very, very unexpected if you look at our quality.”

“Horror match at Anfield”: press tirade for Slot and Liverpool

The British press immediately attacked the 47-year-old sharply following the disaster. “The horror game at Anfield plunged Arne Slot into a major crisis after another embarrassing disaster – it was clear that his Reds stars had nothing left to give,” wrote the Daily Mail. The Telegraph headlined the worst crisis in 72 years and spoke of the humiliation of more than just the crisis.

The coach, who received criticism, was able to find positive things in the defeat. “We came back into the game and had enough chances to make it 2-1 – I don’t think anyone expected in the first half that we would lose 4-1,” Slot, who again had to play without injured German international Florian Wirtz, said on “TNT Sports”.

Liverpool legend Gerrard: “They were too open, vulnerable and unstable”

A Liverpool legend viewed the match as less positive. “They conceded too many goals, they were too open, they were vulnerable and unstable,” said Steven Gerrard. “Anfield tells a story. The seats are empty,” he said, referring to disgruntled fans who had left the stadium early last week during Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest. “Liverpool’s problems are getting bigger and the pressure is increasing,” said Gerrard.

The English football champions have suffered six defeats in the Premier League and are only ranked 12th. In the Champions League, Liverpool slipped to 13th place.
