Snow and ice: “A pretty tricky weekend” awaits motorists, the Transport Minister warns

Philippe Tabarot, Transport Minister, also announced the mobilization of 7,500 agents as part of a “road management” system for the weekend.

Ten centimeters of snow in the Jura and Vosges, four to five centimeters in the Doubs… Wintry conditions are starting to set in across the country this week with more snow falling last night. The arrival of air masses at the poles, reports Météo France, causes a decrease in mercury levels. And with this episode, there are a lot of distractions on the road.

“We are probably going to face a quite complicated weekend so that everything must be anticipated through teams mobilized 7 days a week, 24 hours a day”, warned Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot on BFMTV this Thursday, detailing the implementation of the “road management” system, which mobilizes 7,500 agents.

“Our obsession is securing roads, infrastructure and transportation. (…) It must be anticipated, it must be prevented, it must be informed,” he added. “We are at the moment we are talking to about thirty yellow citizens,” said Philippe Tabarot. This morning the temperature was -4°C in Angers (Maine-et-Loire), -3°C in Niort (Deux-Sèvres), -2°C in Blois (Loir-et-Cher) and Angoulême (Charente).

The coldest day is expected to occur on Saturday

Traffic was disrupted this Thursday morning by the sudden formation of ice or snow on the N122 east of Aurillac, the N57 at Doubs and the N5 at Jura. Motorists were also slowed on the N164 in Brittany, the A11 near Nogent Le Rotrou and the A89 west of Clermont-Ferrand.

The coldest day is Saturday according to Météo France. The meteorological service predicted temperatures of -1°C in Paris and Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), -4°C in Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme) and Le Mans (Sarthe) and even -6°C in Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle).

On Friday, snow will fall “still light”, according to Météo France “in the north-eastern quarter as far as Limousin, Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and towards the Pyrenees (…) and more temporarily in the morning on the hills of Normandy and the Center. In the Jura, the Alps, the Central Massif and the Pyrenean foothills, the snowfall is heavier and lasts from a height of 200/300 m. »
