The last child has feathers.
Some celebrate children’s birthdays, others celebrate their dog’s special day. Pam Tinnemeyer and Nadine Schulz do just that for a living and offer parties for dogs, or rather their “parents.” They recently guested on “The Lions’ Den” with their idea. Is all this just a trend, or a real statement of love for dogs as man’s best friends?
Cake and gifts for the woof?
Balloons, cake and a relaxed atmosphere. Here’s how to properly celebrate a dog’s birthday, if Instagram and the like are to be believed. More and more people are posting their animal celebrations. In addition to treats and balloons, “Doggybirthday” event catering also offers drinks to bake and other special features. And of course it’s all very dog friendly, as well as champagne there’s chicken stock and carrot cocktail.

“Of course we are always there with our friends when their dogs have birthdays. Yes, and in total we have celebrated, experienced and seen more than 1000 dog birthdays.”said Pam Tinnemeyer of Jesteburg, co-founder of “Doggybirthday.” She and her friend Nadine Peters have been hosting the special party for a year.
The hype comes from America
Whether it’s a baby shower, gender reveal party, or dog birthday – what has been a business model in the US for years is even more special in Germany. The two friends sensed their opportunity: They tested recipes, service providers, and ordered their own products. They finally expressed their big dreams in the VOX format “The Lions’ Den”. In the end they went home without an agreement, but they still believed in their idea. But why do people order birthdays for their animals?

As family members, dogs help many people get through difficult times
“So this emotional closeness, this deep bond, he was always there, he was happy when you came home, he always loved you,” said Nadine Peters. The target group is people who see their animals as equal caregivers. Only it wasn’t a human, but an animal. According to psychologists, most people celebrate their pets’ birthdays because they enjoy it and feel good about it. Pam and Nadine, on the other hand, enjoy seeing people happy and feeding the dogs at their “Pawties,” a mix of the word party and the English word for paw.

Animal birthdays as a luxury lifestyle?
And how much does the fun cost? In addition to Pam and Nadine’s services, there are other party providers for four-legged friends throughout Germany. Depending on your desires, such feathered highlights can quickly cost several hundred euros on average. Don’t worry, if you want to make things cheaper and have time, you can of course look for your own recipes, make cakes, test drinks or make decorations and throw a party at home. In the end, it’s all about sweet ideas that bring joy.

At the same time, there has been repeated criticism in Germany of the humanization of animals, especially dogs, on social media. So, if any pet party is too much for you, rest assured: the love of animals does not depend on the number of birthday gifts a dog has.
