The powerful heavy-lift rocket “New Glenn” from Amazon founder Blue Origin’s space company Jeff Bezos launched two Mars orbiters of the US space agency NASA into space on its second launch. “New Glenn” lifted off from the Cape Canaveral spaceport in the US state of Florida, as shown by live images from Blue Origin. Through a mission entitled “Escapade”, NASA, among other things, wants to research the atmosphere of the Red Planet.

The launch of “New Glenn” had previously been postponed twice – once due to bad weather and once due to concerns about the possible impact of a powerful solar storm.

The rocket successfully reached space on its first flight in January. This time, Blue Origin also succeeded in landing a lower stage rocket safely on a ship for the first time. In the future, Blue Origin wants to use the “New Glenn” rocket to compete with SpaceX, which currently dominates commercial space travel.
