Spain condemned Meta to pay 542 million

A Spanish court has condemned Meta, Mark Zuckerberg’s company that owns Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp, for paying 542 million euros for unfair competition. This amount must be paid to 89 media in the country; With this decision, the court agreed with the Spanish Media Association which accused Meta of gaining advantages in the market by violating the rules on the use of personal data. Meta specifically violated the European Data Protection Regulation, in effect since 2018, by not asking its users for permission to use their data for personalized advertising campaigns.
