Spain’s Second Deputy Prime Minister and Labor Minister, Yolanda Diaz, has expressed her opposition to the planned layoffs of more than 5,000 announced by Spanish telecommunications company Telefónica to unions. “We absolutely do not agree with a company that is profitable and is a public company that fired more than 5,000 workers,” said Diaz in a press conference after the Council of Ministers Session. “It doesn’t feel right to me, people’s money should not be used to fire anyone,” added progressive platform leader Sumar.
