Horrible find off the coast Bear TowerMelendugno marina (Lecce), where a diver while diving found the body of a woman. This case was also influenced by reports of the disappearance of a woman and her 8-year-old son. Concerns were raised by her ex-husband who reported it to Calimera police. The child was found dead that night. The Carabinieri found him after a raid. It appears the death was caused by an act of violence. There were stab wounds on the child’s body. The hypothesis is murder-suicide.
This story happened at around 15.30 yesterday afternoon, when divers alerted the Port Authority operations room which immediately intervened, with a patrol boat coming from Otranto, to retrieve the body.
Hypothesis
The first findings made by the medical examiner present at the scene revealed that the woman’s death occurred several hours after the discovery. However, this hypothesis still awaits confirmation. Elements that can determine identification are found in the body: the woman has a light complexion, as well as distinctive tattoos and piercings.
The Carabinieri of Lecce company, which is entrusted with the investigation, hopes these details will allow a quick comparison with the database to clarify the identity of the victim and thus investigate the cause of death which remains a mystery. The Prefecture of Lecce, in accordance with practice in situations like this, was alerted and began cross-checking with recent lists of missing persons, both at local and national level.
On the orders of the judge in charge of the Lecce Prosecutor’s Office, the body was transferred to the morgue of the “Vito Fazzi” hospital in the capital Salento, where further medico-legal investigations will be carried out in an effort to trace the woman’s identity and clarify the causes and circumstances of her death. The investigation continues 360 degrees, with investigations underway in several towns in the Adriatic region with easy access to the Torre dell’Orso marina, and while awaiting findings on the body, the Corps’ military personnel are not ruling out any leads.
