Steinmeier, ‘we keep alive the memory of the victims of war and tyranny’** – Il Tempo

Berlin, November 15 (Adnkronos) – “If we remember the history of Italian-German friendship, we cannot ignore the dark times. In recent years, the joint commemoration of the crimes committed during National Socialism by the German people, their accomplices, and their collaborators has always been very dear to you, dear Sergio, and me. We must keep alive the memory of the victims of war and tyranny, especially today! Therefore, Mr. President, I am very grateful that you will speak at the German Bundestag tomorrow on the occasion of the commemoration main National Day of Mourning”. This was conveyed by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on the occasion of the ceremony in Berlin, together with the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the award of the ‘Presidents’ Award for urban cooperation between Italy and Germany’.

“If we remember together – added the German Head of State – we have the opportunity to learn from the past. If we build bridges together, we have the opportunity to find a better way to the future. As these sister cities show us, whose wealth of ideas and commitment we cherish today!”.
