Green Party leader Felix Banaszak ruled out his party’s support for the black-red coalition’s pension package. He also sharply criticized Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
“The supervised government is over. They have to finish it now,” Banaszak told “Bild am Sonntag”. “I also think that this pension package as a whole is wrong. How does Friedrich Merz want to govern for four years if, for every decision he takes, he relies on the Greens or the Left, which he called crazy the night before the election, to help him? No, we reject this pension package because overall it is not a sensible way to spend money and does not address the structural problems at all.”
Banaszak: “Merz annoys someone once a week”
At the same time, Banaszak sharply criticized the Chancellor for his performance at a climate conference in Brazil. “The only thing left in memory of his appearance is a stupid joke about the place. Germany will get its punishment: next time we want support in the UN Security Council in terms of getting the countries in the south of the planet to side with us against Vladimir Putin,” Banaszak said on BamS. The question is: Does he finally understand what responsibility he has? That person is not a columnist who can express his opinions, nor is he a participant observer – he is the Federal Chancellor. Friedrich Merz bothers someone once a week. Sometimes it’s Brazil, sometimes it’s the people of this country that he sees as the whole problem.
The one billion euros that Germany wants to provide for the rainforest fund is not enough for Banaszak: “Of course it is not enough. Norway, which has a much smaller budget and a smaller economy, pays three times as much.”
